A call was received by Royal Animal Refuge, a no-kill shelter for homeless animals, about a senior dog that had been found abandoned on the side of the road. The sweet dog’s previous owner abandoned him with a note.
When the rescuers read the note, they were even more heartbroken for the 13-year-old dog. Reese, the dog, was discovered abandoned in Peachtree City, Georgia, wearing a pink collar and leash.
The previous owner wrote in the note that she adored Reese but didn’t have time for her. She tells whoever finds her that she enjoys both “soft food and real food.”
The Refuge published her story, but only asked for positive feedback. “It’s always so sad when these kinds of situations occur, not only for the animal, but also for the family who felt they had no other choice,” they said. With that said, we believe it is critical to share each animal’s story, but we ask that everyone concentrate on the positives.”
Reese was brought in and required immediate medical attention. Several of her teeth had to be extracted due to tartar buildup and gingivitis. On the rest of her teeth, she had a dental cleaning. “Reese also has mammary masses in both chains,” the Refuge wrote, “which most likely means she has been used for breeding.” The note stated that she disliked small children, but the team assumed this was due to her pain.
Because the kennel’s loud noises made Reese nervous, the team sought a foster home for her to recover. Fortunately, a foster mother who had recently lost her fur child stepped forward. She fell in love with sweet Reese right away. Reese was a foster failure, which meant she found her forever loving home.
Please bring your pet to a local shelter if you are no longer able to care for it. It is not a viable option to abandon them on the side of the road.
