A puppy was given to a Marine Veteran as an early Christmas present by his family. Peter Coukoulis has been suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder since his return to civilian life three years ago, and his mother, Dena, believed that getting a dog that could be trained as a service animal would help her son.
In the heartwarming video below, he’s in the kitchen helping his family with Christmas decorations when he receives a festively wrapped box. The box is slightly open, hinting at what’s inside.
He’s not sure why his family is giving him a gift so early, but when he flips the lid open, a tiny Beagle puppy appears and looks out. Peter begins to cry the moment he sees the puppy and gently picks up his new friend, cradling her to him before kissing her.
“The puppy has already changed Peter’s life, it has made him happy after a very difficult three years,” Dena said of the touching moment.
