Rich Wilcock’s dog, Leia, barked at him while he was fishing on the beach of Criccieth in Wales. She wanted him to come to her. “I was taking photos of the fantastic scenery when I heard my dog barking at me from further down the beach….clearly she had found something!” Rich writes.
He initially mistook it for a fish, but soon realized Leia had discovered a beached baby dolphin! Rich was able to gently lift the young harbor porpoise back into the water.
Rich stayed there for a while to make sure he didn’t return, and later called the coastguard when he was in an area where he could get a mobile signal to let them know what he had done.
He later wrote, “[I] think the little guy was lucky because there was nobody around for miles!” And if it hadn’t been for my dog barking at me, I would have missed him as well!” It’s a good thing Leia was there to save him!
