Strudel, an obese dog, finds his forever home after losing weight.

Strudel the Golden Retriever was in bad shape when she arrived at the shelter after her human p.a.s.s.e.d away. She didn’t stand a chance of being adopted because she was severely overweight and 7 years old.

Strudel’s time was running out due to a thyroid condition, t.e.r.r.i.b.l.e joints, and simply being “too heavy.”

When Hearts for Hounds Rescue in Virginia found out about the fat puppy, they decided to take her in. “Strudel arrived to us severely overweight, to the point where it was th.r.e.a.t.e.n.i.n.g her health,” the rescue noted. “Strudel is the first dog to join our Heart for Hounds ‘Biggest Loser’ program, and she’s working hard to get in shape.”

Zoom Room Virginia Beach, an indoor dog gym and exercise facility, is assisting Strudel in her weight-loss journey. When Strudel’s owners, John and Kristy Cotthaus, saw a picture of her, they contacted Hearts for Hounds for assistance, and they now sponsor her weekly agility classes.

Strudel’s first day of agility class is seen in this video. Even though it’s tough for her to walk, you can see her tail wagging.

Despite her difficulty getting around, she enjoys the classes immensely.

Strudel is taking daily thyroid and joint vitamins in addition to her new training routine. Strudel is losing weight thanks to all of the love and care. She’s lost nearly 20 pounds in the last three months, moving from 80 pounds to 54!

She can move around lot more easily now that she has reduced weight.

Now that she’s shed weight, she’s able to go around much more easily.

Hearts for Hounds writes, “She has a gold heart and absolutely loves agility class, which she takes weekly to help with strength building, stamina, and weight loss.” “She’s a wonderful dog with a wagging tail!” She is really well behaved at home, is laid back, and knows obedience commands.”

Strudel’s rescuers are hoping she will find a forever home now that she has lost weight and adhered to her workout routine. They’re looking for a family who will support her in her efforts to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.

“Strudel is looking for a family who is just as committed to helping him lose weight and be healthy as we are,” they said. “This will necessitate continuing her agility training, daily walks, and tight diet, as well as ensuring she takes her thyroid medication on a daily basis. Throughout her weight loss journey, Hearts for Hounds will continue to watch and assist with her new family.”
