The Husband Takes His Last Breath Next to His Wife, and Over Time, Their Daughter Discovers Hidden Details

Anyone who has attended a wedding is familiar with the famous line from the wedding vows: “Till death do you part.” The words are meant to convey the strength of this couple’s current bond – they’re in it for the long haul, no matter what.

Regrettably, these promises are frequently broken. Death, on the other hand, cannot separate some special couples.

Floyd and Violet Hartwig were in this situation.

When they were in high school, the couple met. Floyd enlisted in the Navy after graduating from high school, but while on leave, he reconnected with Violet, and the rest, as they say, is history.

They married on August 16, 1947, moved to a ranch in Easton, California, and spent the rest of their lives together working and raising three wonderful children.

“I think what we remember most about them is how hardworking they were,” Donna Scharton, the couple’s daughter, recalled. “They cut cotton together, fed turkeys together, helped each other and helped the children. And you had the impression that they had a connection, which I believe grew stronger over time, particularly in the final months of their lives.

However, as Floyd and Violet grow older, their health begins to deteriorate. Violet had dementia, and her health was rapidly deteriorating.

Floyd was always concerned for his wife, despite his own health problems. Floyd could barely get up and walk more than a few feet without becoming out of breath, Donna recalls, but the only thing that mattered to him was his wife’s health and comfort.

Donna recalls taking them to the doctor, and Floyd telling her, “I’m fine.” “I’d like her to be fixed.”

As Violet’s health deteriorated, the family began to consider palliative care for her. Then they received a call from the doctor that took them by surprise.

Floyd was suffering from kidney failure. He only had two weeks to live, according to the doctor.

Because he needed to go to the hospital, Violet’s family drove her there so the two could spend their final days together.

The couple was surrounded by their entire family when they learned that Floyd’s time was approaching – three children, four grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Floyd was clearly in excruciating pain and was running out of time, so the family drew the couple’s hospital beds closer together and joined hands.

Donna claims that her father fought until the end because he didn’t want to abandon his wife, but that his body eventually gave up and he died at the age of 90.

Violet followed her husband five hours later. She was 89 years old at the time.

While the family is heartbroken that Floyd and Violet died within hours of each other, they understand that it was the couple’s wish. They had always expressed their desire to die at home and with their children.

Donna cried as she said, “We felt blessed because that’s what they wanted.” “It was meant to be, and there was no other way for it to end.”

Floyd and Violet had the sad but beautiful end to their 67-year marriage that they had always desired.

Donna stated, “They never asked for anything.” “All they wanted was to be with their family, and it was incredible that they were able to do so.”
