Nancy is a Chihuahua who was rescued as a puppy from the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. The tiny canine took up a new set of talents in her new home, skills that are generally reserved for Border Collies. Nancy may be barely 2.5 pounds, but she boldly herds sheep that are more than six times her height.
The video’s backstory is as follows:
Nancy arrived at the shelter at the age of three weeks, suffering from severe sarcoptic mange. Ali Taylor, the animal charity’s Head of Canine Welfare Training, eventually raised her and adopted her. Ali carried the tiny puppy to farms on a regular basis.
“Nancy used to watch all her Border Collie companions herd the sheep and appeared quite interested in what was going on,” Ali explained. I decided to give her a try in the ring one day, and she grabbed it right away. I began in a highly controlled atmosphere, but it was clear right away that Nancy have natural ability and enjoys herding sheep.”
Nancy has been observed in action by farmer Geoff Temple, who described her as “wonderful.”
“In 17 years of herding, I’ve never seen a Chihuahua work sheep,” he remarked. “I now train other people and their dogs, and I see about 15 individuals every week, almost all of whom have Border Collies.” Nancy is one of a kind – she’s a petite beauty sheep herder.
Ali and Nancy stated they participate in the activity for enjoyment and to “show rescue dogs can do anything.” “At Battersea, we rehome a lot of dogs to working homes, such as with farmers, the military, and as support dogs,” she explained. People sometimes underestimate rescue dogs, yet they are truly magnificent creatures who go on to do incredible feats.”
