Michael Ketterer is a true artist who sings from the heart. So much so that the judges, including the normally stoic Simon Cowell, were moved to tears.
Michael sang James Bay’s Us during his quarter-final performance, and his amazing voice left Simon speechless. Tyra Banks, the host, is asked by Simon to go on to the other judges. She, on the other hand, was having none of it. “I’m not going to return.” “I understand you’re upset, and I want you to talk about it,” she continued.
“As a dad, I somewhat get…” Simon continued after taking a long breath. I couldn’t do it… I have no idea what you’ve done. The fact that you’re on this show and in desperate need of assistance, as well as the fact that you’re a truly unique individual. Something about you appeals to me.”
Michael, 41, is a pediatric nurse who also enjoys playing music. He moved to California from Knoxville, Tennessee, where he now resides. His wife Ivey almost died after giving birth to their daughter Sofia, whose life was also in peril, he previously disclosed on the show.
Although Michael’s performance and heart and soul struck Simon, the other judges were similarly moved by Michael’s performance. “We need more humans like you,” Howie Mandel added. You earned your place here; this isn’t a sad narrative; it’s a joyous one. People should be inspired and guided by who you are and how you conduct yourself.”
