A retired Dublin man is going viral for his good deeds of spending hours each week creating over 50 curries to feed the homeless. After viewing the number of homeless people in the Irish city, Brian Birkett, 65, felt forced to act.
Brian receives a few donations for his cooking, but he usually pays for all of the ingredients himself. Every Monday night, he prepares the curry tubs at home and delivers them to A Lending Hand, a volunteer organization that helps feed and support the homeless. Every Monday evening outside the Central Bank, the organization distributes toiletries, clothing, sleeping bags, and cooked meals.
When A Lending Hand announced that Brian needed a lift to distribute the meals, his generous gestures went viral.
They stated:
“Every Monday night, this retired gentleman cooks over 50 4-1 chicken curry rice and chips for our homeless friends.” He needs a ride from Ballyfermot to Dame Street and back tonight; will any of you kind individuals be able to assist him?”
The photographs went viral on social media, with people hailing Brian as a “unsung hero” from all over the world. (And, as everyone knows, he arranged his transportation that evening!)
“Brian ya done it again…,” Lending Hand wrote after earning a lot of acclaim.
We are blown away by the number of people who have shared and liked our postings. Thank you very much for publicizing what we do, because the support has been overwhelming, and we have received no kitty or vouchers for the past few weeks, so everything has had to come from our own pockets, so thank you all so much.”
People like Brian contribute to a better society. Tell your friends and family about what he does to serve the community!
