A clever dog has devised a method of paying for treats that has dog lovers’ hearts melting into puddles.
In Colombia, Negro is a dog who lives on the campus of the Diversified Technical Education Institute of Monterrey Casanare.
For the past five years, faculty have made certain that Negro is fed and has a place to sleep at night. But that hasn’t stopped this dog from devising his own unique method of obtaining treats, which is both ingenious and human-like.
Negro discovered a cookie shop on campus and noticed one day that students were handing over pieces of green paper (money) in exchange for the tasty treats.
So the astute dog discovered his own green pieces – leaves – and promptly brought them over to the stand to pay for his own cookie.
“He’d go to the store and watch the kids give money and get something in return,” teacher Angela Garcia Bernal told. “Then one day, out of nowhere, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and declaring that he wanted a cookie.”
How could the shopkeeper say no? That was all the reinforcement Negro needed, and he now comes by every day with a leaf in his mouth.
