Cyclist carries an injured dog on his back to seek assistance and finds him a forever home.

A stray dog’s life was sav.ed by a cyclist out for a ride in the woods with some friends.

Jarret Little was riding his bike through the woods near Columbus, Georgia, when he came across the dog, which appeared to have been hit by a car.

“We came to a halt to regroup, and he emerged from the woods to greet us. Little told CBS News, “He was really thin, ribs were showing, and he had a lot of road rash and a broken leg.”

Jarret lifted the dog onto his back and cycled into town to look for help after giving the dog water and food. But not even he could have predicted what came next.

“It’s said that winning the lottery is a one-in-a-million chance. This week’s winner was this puppy. Jarret wrote on Facebook, “Amazing series of fortunate events.”

When they arrived in downtown Columbus, they immediately found Andrea Shaw, who was visiting a local bike shop to get the dog more water and food. Andrea, who was visiting from Maine for business, ran into Jarret and saw the dog. “Columbo,” she offered to help right away.

Columbo hugged Andrea right away, as if he knew she was the one who could help him.

“I [Columbo the dog] hugged her because she spoke so nice to me,” Andrea wrote in Columbo’s Adventures. I bled all over her brand-new shirt. She must have liked it because she called her husband and told him, “I’m saving this dog – he’s bleeding and broken, and I’m not leaving him.” Joel Shaw, her husband, replied, “Ok. ‘Does your hotel allow pets?’

Columbo had a brok.en front toe and a fractured back leg, according to Andrea, who took him to an emergency veterinarian.

She paid for Columbo’s surg.ery and found a group called Canine Freedom Transportation to assist her in getting the dog back to Maine and her horse farm.

“After having four pins put in to stabilize the fractures and a full cast on a front leg to stabilize a broken toe,” Andrea wrote, “Bo traveled with 25 staples in his hind leg.” “They gave him all of his meds and kept him comfortable until I could pick him up.”

Now Columbo is settling in to his new life and meeting his new family.

Andrea’s horses, including Luquillo, a 13-year-old German Warmblood, are becoming friends with him.

Jarret can’t help but think how fortunate Columbo is now that he’s been res.cued. Jarret had run into Andrea, a complete stranger, not only because he had crossed paths with Columbo, but also because he had run into Columbo. “We would not have crossed paths with her if I had been five minutes earlier or later,” Jarret said. “It’s amazing how far he’s progressed.”

Andrea has also given Columbo a forever home after taking him into her heart and providing him with the medical care he required.
