It all started a few years ago, when Hailey Fort was five years old and saw a homeless man on the street. She wanted to buy him a sandwich but realized she could feed many more homeless people if she grew the food herself, so she started a garden. She then had the idea to build shelters.
“It just doesn’t seem right that there are homeless people,” Hailey said. “I believe that everyone should have a safe place to live.”
In the video below, Hailey is constructing one of her mobile sleeping shelters for her friend Edward, who is currently homeless. The shelter is complete with windows and insulation!
“If she had her way, we’d have mobile sleeping shelters on our front lawn,” Hailey’s mother, Miranda, explained.
And do you remember that garden? This year, Hailey hopes to harvest more than 200 pounds of food to help feed the homeless!
In addition, the aspiring philanthropist provides health and hygiene supplies to the homeless.
Hailey’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, and she has raised $30,000 thanks to the generosity of those who have donated after learning about her enterprising ways and generous heart!
