Thousands of people abandon their pets every year when they go on vacation, which may seem unthinkable to the majority of pet parents.
Every year, 60,000 dogs and cats are “thrown out” by families going on vacation, according to the French animal charity 30 Millions d’Amis Foundation (30 Million Friends).
The charity launched a campaign to raise awareness and prevent people from abandoning their pets in an effort to stop such callous abandonment.
Rather than making a video about a dog being abandoned or surrendered to a shelter, the charity chose to depict the close bond between a young girl and her dog.
In the 2-minute silent film, renowned French director Xavier Giannolli does an excellent job of following the girl and her dog through important moments in their lives.
We see how they met for the first time, how they share birthdays and sick days, how they celebrate births and life changes. The touching film tugs at all of your heartstrings about what it means to have a dog and ends with the heartfelt message, “When a dog abandons his master, it is not to go on vacation.”
To a powerful video, a powerful message. Take a look at the video below to see for yourself.
