A family day at the beach turned perilous for a dog named Hazel after she disappeared beneath a mountain of sea foam that churned up on Australia’s Gold Coast beach.
The country has been hit by torrential rains and cyclonic winds along its northeast coast, causing massive swells. In this case, several feet of sea foam washed up onto the beach, blanketing the sand and covering Hazel.
Her family started looking for her and calling her name. Bystander video shows a woman and her son covered in foam up to their waists as they search for Hazel.
Fortunately, the dog’s owner found her and scooped her up into her arms before carrying her to safety.
Days of heavy rain and strong winds have been brought by the rain and winds, severely damaging popular tourist beaches along the coast. According to the mayor of Byron Bay, Main Beach, a popular tourist destination in northern New South Wales, has all but vanished.
