Over the weekend, an Ontario man threw a large rock at a car window before smashing it. But he wasn’t a thug or a thief; he was a concerned Good Samaritan. With onlookers yelling “oh my God,” the man continued to throw the rock until the glass broke.
After breaking the window, he reached inside the black BMW and extracted a small white dog that had been left inside. The audience erupted in applause when they saw the dog.
Will Costa was in the parking lot at the time of the rescue and captured a video of the Good Samaritan in action, which has since gone viral. He was at a music festival in Grand Bend, Ontario, when he witnessed the incident.
On Saturday, June 12, 2016, temperatures reached 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Celsius), which is hot enough to cause heat stroke in a pet left alone in a hot car.
Costa claims that steps were taken to contact authorities and the owner of the car. “Police were called, announcements were made over the PA system asking BMW owners to come to their car, and a reasonable amount of time had passed before he started smashing the window,” Costa told the London Free Press.
According to Costa, the owner of the car arrived 50 minutes after the dog was let out of the car.
After getting some water, the dog was fine. The Ontario SPCA was also notified of the incident and is currently investigating it.
According to police, they spoke with the owner, who stated that given the circumstances, he “had no concerns about his damaged vehicle.” The Good Samaritan is unlikely to face charges for smashing the window.
