Don Chatten was out walking his two dogs in Buffalo, New York, on a bitterly cold day when a woman approached him and asked for his assistance in res.cuing her small dog.
He didn’t hesitate to help her, but once he found the missing dog, he realized the danger and knew he had to act quickly.
Don knew he didn’t have time if he wanted to save the dog who had fallen into icy waters in Ellicott Creek Park.
According to WKBW News, Don dial.ed 9.1.1 but, fearing that they would arrive too late, decided to assist the dog himself.
He attempted to crawl across the ice, but it gave way, plunging him into the icy waters midriff-deep.
Don told WKBW News, “I knew it wasn’t really deep in this part because I used to come.”
According to the news station, the dog was also taken to the vet for a checkup.
